Chinese Martial Arts at Body-Mind Harmony |
|
QIGONGA necessary supplement to any martial arts practice Qigong or Chi Kung is the practice of willfully manipulating the Qi (or Chi,) to benefit the body, mind and spirit. It has an ancient history. For academic interest, it has been divided into four major schools or categories. These were brought about by the groups which used to practice qigong in ancient China. There were the scholars, the medical doctors, the martial artists, and the religious monks. Each group practiced for somewhat different reasons, and each had various styles. Martial qigong was probably created at the famous Shaolin Temple. The monks there were known to practice qigong techniques from the Tendon Changing Classic and the Marrow Washing Classic. Master David Schenk has studied numerous qigong styles and incorporates them into his training and teaching. In addition to the qigong techniques provided with martial arts instruction, there are ongoing qigong classes offered at The Center. For a description of one qigong style, see the ChiLel Qigong Homepage. |
