Our Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide a system of instruction that will develop each student's physical and mental well being, utilizing Taijiquan and Traditional Chinese Martial Arts techniques and training involving physical exercise, breathing, and meditation. Our goal is to provide instruction to build discipline, self-respect, and awareness of ourselves, along with respect for others. Our teaching is presented with a positive attitude that stresses flexibility, balance, and self-defense, as well as coordination of the mind and body.

Current News and Events at the Center

  • COVID-19: The Center fully opened last week with the no mask requirement for all fully vaccinated students. We expanded the rule to allow unvaccinated students to play without a mask whenever we are able to hold our classes outside. If we play inside, unvaccinated students must wear a mask. 
  • TEACHING 24 FORMS TAIJI: Shifu Harris began teaching the 24 Forms Taiji in Downtown Akron in conjunction with the Downtown Akron Partnership. Classes are held at Cascade Plaza on Thursdays from 11:30am to 12:30pm. Attendence is free, but you do have to sign up for each class.   • MASTER YANG XIAO DONG: Master Yang returned on Saturday, April 17th and Tuesday, April 20th to teach us the two-person matching form for the San Cai Jian. On Saturday, April 24th, we celebrated World Taiji and Qigong Day with Master Yang at the Jewish Community Center on White Pond Drive.  Check our Photo Gallery for pictures of our 10/3 & 10/10 classes and our San Cai Jian on WTQD.
  • AKRON BEACON JOURNAL ARTICLE: Shifu Harris and the Center were featured in an article in the Akron Beacon Journal. Click on this Center link to view the article.
  • ISSHINRYU KARATE: Melissa Argilan continues to offer Isshinryu Karate at the Center. This is a separate program, and not part of Body-Mind Harmony's curriculum. Her classes continue to grow so please contact Melissa at 330-752-3528 for more information and checkout the school's website:
  • TAIJIQUAN: Classes have resumed at the Natatorium in Cuyahoga Falls. We are also holding in-person classes for the NAT students at the Center on Tuesdays, 5:30PM to 6:30PM. Classes at the Natatorium are held on Wednesday evenings. The Beginner class runs from 5:00 to 6:00 PM and the Advanced class runs from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. Please contact the Center if you would like additional information about these classes.
