Our Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide a system of instruction that will develop each student's physical and mental well being, utilizing Taijiquan and Traditional Chinese Martial Arts techniques and training involving physical exercise, breathing, and meditation. Our goal is to provide instruction to build discipline, self-respect, and awareness of ourselves, along with respect for others. Our teaching is presented with a positive attitude that stresses flexibility, balance, and self-defense, as well as coordination of the mind and body.

Current News and Events at the Center

  • MASTER YANG XIAO DONG: Master Yang visited the Center on Saturday 10/3/20 and 10/10/20 to check both our Kwen Wu Jian form and our San Cai Jian form. Master Yang returned on Saturday, April 17th and Tuesday, April 20th to teach us the two-person matching form for the San Cai Jian. On Saturday, April 24th, we celebrated World Taiji and Qigong Day with Master Yang at the Jewish Community Center on White Pond Drive.  Check our Photo Gallery for pictures of our 10/3 & 10/10 classes and our San Cai Jian on WTQD.
  • AKRON BEACON JOURNAL ARTICLE: Shifu Harris and the Center were featured in an article in the Akron Beacon Journal. Click on this Center link to view the article.
  • TEACHING 8-STEP TAIJI: On Friday, February 19th, Shifu Harris taught 4 classes via Zoom to Ravenna Middle School and Ravenna High School students. Amy Miller, the Chinese Language teacher, arranged to have Shifu Harris teach her classes Taiji because of the limited space. 8-Step Taiji is designed for people confined to wheelchairs, people who need to sit while playing, or for people with limited space to play.
  • COVID-19 SHOT: On Monday, February 8th, Shifu Harris received his second Moderna Covid-19 vaccine shot at Akron City Hospital. After the second shot and so far there have been no adverse side effects. Pictures of Shifu getting his first and second shots are in our Photo Gallery page.
  • COVID-19 COMPLIANCE: When the Center reopened on Tuesday, May 12th, we opened using the guidelines and recommendations issued by the ODH and the CDC for COVID-19 compliance. All students are required to wear masks that cover both their mouth and nose while inside the Center. All students are required to fill out a Daily Health Chart before each class, and are requireds to use the touchless hand sanitizer upon enterting the Center. We have installed two air purifiers that completly clean the air within 1 hour. See our Photo Gallery for some pictures of the "new" normal for our Taiji class.    
  • ISSHINRYU KARATE: Melissa Argilan continues to offer Isshinryu Karate at the Center. This is a separate program, and not part of Body-Mind Harmony's curriculum. Her classes continue to grow so please contact Melissa at 330-752-3528 for more information and checkout the school's website:
  • TAIJIQUAN: Classes have resumed at the Natatorium in Cuyahoga Falls. We are also holding in-person classes for the NAT students at the Center on Tuesdays, 5:30PM to 6:30PM. Classes at the Natatorium are held on Wednesday evenings. The Beginner class runs from 5:00 to 6:00 PM and the Advanced class runs from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. Please contact the Center if you would like additional information about these classes.
