Our Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide a system of instruction that will develop each student's physical and mental well being, utilizing Taijiquan and Traditional Chinese Martial Arts techniques and training involving physical exercise, breathing, and meditation. Our goal is to provide instruction to build discipline, self-respect, and awareness of ourselves, along with respect for others. Our teaching is presented with a positive attitude that stresses flexibility, balance, and self-defense, as well as coordination of the mind and body.

Current News and Events at the Center

  • COVID-19: The Center fully opened last week with the no mask requirement for all fully vaccinated students. We expanded the rule to allow unvaccinated students to play without a mask whenever we are able to hold our classes outside. If we play inside, unvaccinated students must wear a mask. 
  • TEACHING TAIJI IN DOWNTOWN AKRON: Shifu Harris concluded his teaching of 8 Step Taiji in Downtown Akron last week at Cascade Plaza. We had local residents, visitors to Akron, downtown office workers, as well as some of our current students join us. We look forward to the opportunity to teach more free Taiji classes in Downtown Akron.
  • TEACHING WU BU QUAN: Shifu Harris will be teaching a Shaolin form called Wu Bu Quan to local area Middle Schools and High Schools. Wu Bu Quan is a beginning Wu Shu form that Shifu Harris learned while training at the Shaolin Temple. 
  • MASTER YANG XIAO DONG: Master Yang will be returning to the Center on Saturday, October 9th. He will be in town for one week and will check students new to Taiji on their 32 Form. Afterwards he will check advanced students on their Kwen Wu Jian (sword) form.
  • AKRON BEACON JOURNAL ARTICLE: Shifu Harris and the Center were featured in an article in the Akron Beacon Journal. Click on this Center link to view the article.
  • ISSHINRYU KARATE: Melissa Argilan continues to offer Isshinryu Karate at the Center. This is a separate program, and not part of Body-Mind Harmony's curriculum. Her classes continue to grow so please contact Melissa at 330-752-3528 for more information and checkout the school's website:
  • TAIJIQUAN: Classes continue at the Natatorium in Cuyahoga Falls. We are also holding in-person classes for the NAT students at the Center on Tuesdays, 5:30PM to 6:30PM. Classes at the Natatorium are held on Wednesday evenings. The Beginner class runs from 5:00 to 6:00 PM and the Advanced class runs from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. Please contact the Center if you would like additional information about these classes.
